Open Mic, 250 Fireworks, Metal and Kegs

This weekend was a busy one. It was filled with music, new and familiar faces, fireworks and sleep deprivation.

Friday night we were at the Yarmouth waterfront for the 3rd Annual Open Mic and Fireworks to mark Seafest. Since this year is the 250th birthday of Yarmouth, the fireworks were not only stunning but probably the best that we have ever had the privilege of seeing in this small little one horse town. It really is a one horse town too, in the north end of town we have a statue of a horse (my son made the comment during a trip to town the other day that there was a little too much detail in the horse package area... he's at that age now I guess!) Somehow the meestor and I never got to bed until probably 6 in the morning. The oldest youngin' was at a friends over night and the youngest was camping with family.

Here is a song from our set on Friday called 3 1/2 Words:

On Saturday night, we attended Yarmouth Metal Fest. Hubby was the sound man for the occasion and I watched the Merch table with my bestie for a couple hours while we dangerously played cat's cradle with an elastic band. Afterwards we headed out to a friends house  for the after party which came complete with Keg. Since the show didn't end until midnight, we all sported our beer glows as we watched the glowing sun rise once again. The next day spoke recovery and fortunately my children we're sporting pint sized alcohol free hangovers from ridiculously active weekends so we were all in bed by 8pm.

Masterlock and Middle School

This coming year will mark my oldest son's first year in middle school. New school, new teachers, new friends and his very first locker. He isn't going to solely have to cope with a new workload in the classroom, but he is going from the top of the food chain (grade 6 in elementary school) to the bottom of the food chain. The only thing I can really tell him is to be himself, and I will be there for him regardless of what he faces.

Back to the lockers, he needs a combination lock for school this year. Masterlock currently has a sweepstakes running where parents and students are invited to submit their own questions for the mastermind and participate in a daily sweepstakes for a chance to win back to school must haves! This includes products from Masterlock including the 1500id Speed Dial - Set your own combination.

Disclosure: I am entering a contest for a Master Lock back-to-school prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.

Ibis Reader, Site Review

I do not have an e-reader, not for a lack of wanting one. I do prefer the feeling of holding a book, smelling it's pages. There is something to be said about the convenience of a portable library. But the children come first, and neither of them has asked for an e-reader. So mommy frantically looks for other means to become portable. Work with what you have...

I have recently stumbled across a website that you can view from any portable device that allows you to read public domain books over a wireless internet connection. So now I can wander off with the wee one's DSI when he is busy playing with his brother, type in my 4 digit parental control password to unlock the internet and boom off I go submerging myself in the classics!  I know there are lots of great places to read online but I really feel that Ibis reader shows promise.

I'm reading Alice in Wonderland right now :)

Gluten Free Honey Nut Chex Review

I received a complimentary box of new Gluten Free Honey Nut Chex from Mom Central Canada for the purpose of reviewing and an invite to the Twitter party, which I unfortunately could not attend as we had a jam scheduled for that night. The whole family got to try the cereal and I was pleased with how flavorful, light and crisp this cereal was compared to most that we have eaten. The children were especially fond of the cereal and already prefer it to many of the other cereals we purchase.

The main complaint that I have been hearing throughout the lovely land of bloggers is that the Gluten Free Chex and regular Honey Nut Chex both identical packaging. This speaks danger for our Gluten sensitive friends if they are not very careful when purchasing Gluten Free Honey Nut Chex. Please make sure that the box you select says Gluten Free, otherwise you might accidentally digest some barley malt extract.

Upcoming Product and Book Reviews

It is time to catch up, the postal strike is over and the mail is slowly beginning to trickle into my world again. So far I have a box of Gluten Free Honey Nut Chex to try with the family on behalf of Mom Central Canada and a book to read called God and Stephen Hawking by John C. Lennox on behalf of Litfuse Publishing. I should have reviews up for both of these things by the end of the week! Things are rolling again.

On another note, my garden is looking pretty tasty! The peas are flowering and producing pods and they smell so delicious and fresh. I've had a small harvest of radishes.... I would have had some Beet Greens and Rainbow Chards to enjoy right now but I still have a crow problem. So they have been replanted and are catching up nicely.

Speaking of my crow problem, I have counted at one time... 8 baby crows. This means there are at LEAST 16 adults and this is only what has been counted.

Hubby's schedule has finally slowed down enough that he was able to create a lovely garbage bin with a separate section that we can wheel our compost bin into it. It is nice, neat and tidy. He is a bit compulsive and unless you tell him to make it as absolutely basic as possible he will continue to modify the plans in his head until it has consumed 2 solid weeks of his time. So I was grateful that not only did he only spend 24 hours on it, but it is beautiful!

The funny thing to me though is that he is still constantly redesigning it in his mind. It is perfectly practical.

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer thus far! I know it came late this year... but enjoy it none the less!
